Weekend in Port Angeles

This past weekend Joey and I decided to do a spur of the moment weekend-get-away. We both needed a break from the routine and thought going across a Ferry and into unknown land would be fun. I found a hike suitable for kids in the Olympic National Forest (trying to stick to my goal of one hike a month.) So we packed up early Saturday morning and headed out. We took the Ferry from Edmond to Kingston. It was windy and cold... but fun. Then we drove to Port Angeles. The drive is very scenic and takes you through a couple of quaint little towns.
Once we got to Port Angeles we decided to wait until the following morning to do the hike.. we thought it would be better for the kids to wake up, have a good breakfast, and then do the hike. So instead we explored Port Angeles. They have a great little center right down by the water with touch tanks and tons of sea life to explore. We also found an amazing park there in town that the kids just loved. Then we hit a family pizza joint and had the best pizza ever! A seriously great day! We stayed at the Quality Inn... not too bad for the prize considering they upgraded us to a suite for only 10 bucks.
The next morning we had an okay breakfast and then headed out to our hike. The weather was looking pretty scary and by the time we got to the trail head the snow was really coming down. The road was covered and no other cars were around so we decided to call off the hike. Such a bummer. Emma was the most disappointed. I promised to show her what poison oak looks like. She was pretty vocal about being upset that we had to turn around. We made up for it though and took the kids to The Olympic Game Farm. This great place with tons of wild animals. You stay in your car and drive through the park. The animals come right up to your car and you can feed them... but watch out the zebras bite, the buffalo charge, and the Yaks lick your windows and will box you in if you stop driving. You can feed them bread from your car. Joey and I are both chickens so we only fed the birds... One of which pooped on my window and got me on the back of my shirt... NASTY!
At one point the llamas were chasing us ans then a zebra did. The kids were laughing so hard. It was great fun! After that we headed home... Great weekend!

RAD that sounds like a ton of fun. Maybe we can all do the Meadowdale hike to the ocean one of these Saturdays when it's not ten degrees outside.

What a great spur of the moment adventures. I love it.
